Let’s not lie. Students buy yearbooks for the photos. However, that doesn’t mean words aren’t important. Words add details, facts and opinions. And when carefully crafted words are married with the photographs, a complete story emerges. A yearbook without words is like a movie without sound.


A designer is an artist, journalist and architect. A yearbook designer starts with an empty canvas, or spread, and presents content in a way that makes the reader take notice of the photos and words. Without becoming a distraction, an effective design provides a stage for the story of the year.
